The fifth column is one of the most beloved propaganda narratives. After all, what could be more terrifying than the «enemy within» that is invisibly trying to destroy our ideal system in which we exist?
The fifth column is incredibly useful for the system. It can be used to scare. It can be used to explain the growing distrust of the system. Accusing of belonging to it can be punished.
Yes, the fifth column exists. But does it really look like the propaganda portrays it to us? Does it have a particular shape? Color? Structure? If the first four columns are the pillars on which the system stands, isn’t the appearance of the fifth the result of their dysfunction?
Perhaps we, ordinary people, are stupid. The fifth column is insidious, sly, and powders our brain. And only the system is smarter than everyone, and tells us how to think correctly.
Or maybe we already know what the fifth column actually looks like.
We know the difference between truth and propaganda.
We know and we are silent.
Because we know that for «non-silence» others will call us the fifth column.
П’ята колона – один з найулюбленіших наративів пропаганди. Адже що може бути жахливішим за «ворога всередині», що незримо намагається знищити нашу ідеальну систему, в котрій ми існуємо?
П’ята колона неймовірно зручна для системи. Нею можна лякати. Нею можна пояснювати зростання недовіри до системи. Звинувачуючи у приналежності до неї, можна карати.
Так, п’ята колона існує. Але чи дійсно вона виглядає так, як нам її змальовує пропаганда? Чи має особливу форму? Колір? Будову? Якщо перші чотири колони – це стовпи, на котрих стоїть система, чи не є поява п’ятої результатом їх дисфункції?
Може, ми, звичайні люди – дурні. П’ята колона підступна, хитра, і пудрить нам мізки. І тільки система розумніша за всіх, і вказує нам, як мислити правильно.
А може, ми уже давно знаємо, як насправді виглядає п’ята колона.
Знаємо відмінність між правдою та пропагандою.
Знаємо та мовчимо.
Бо знаємо, що за «не мовчання» інші назвуть п’ятою колоною нас самих.
